Equity and Accessibility are at the heart of music therapy
An open letter to our community and our beloved clients.
Good Vibes Music Therapy has always and will continue to serve from the mindset of equal opportunity. We do the work that we do because we believe that all people, no matter their abilities or challenges, deserve the opportunity to thrive and grow in a successful environment; that is the foundation of the Music Therapy profession.
This mindset, the foundation that Music Therapy is built on, is the same one Good Vibes Music Therapy shares on issues of inequality. We believe that all people, no matter the color of their skin, the religion they may practice, sexual orientation or nationality, are entitled to equal respect. Thankfully this culture runs deep here with GVMT, however we acknowledge that this isn’t always the experience for people of color, especially Black Americans, immigrants etc. GVMT stands with movement such as Black Lives Matters and other organizations who are actively taking steps to ensure that we are the change we want to see in the world.
We implemented ideas and resources that we as a team have structured and designed to bring awareness, education, and also love into our corner of the world. With our mission, we continue to find more ways to provide equal opportunities to all families, especially those who may not easily be able to access music therapy.
As a company comprised of majority women of color, we are excited to continue to make a contribution to our community and continue to foster relationships built on mutual respect, understanding, and empathy. It’s these principles why the work that we do with our clients mean so much to us, and it’s how we’re able to create meaningful and impactful relationships with our clients. We believe that at the end of the day, we are all human beings, simultaneously acknowledging and honoring the way we came into this world is different.
